Spraylat International offered a local student, Nick Waring, the opportunity to partake in an 8 week internship with our Senior Development Chemist Lee Kennedy. Nick originally came and did his school work experience here with us in 2012, he enjoyed it so much he got back in touch with us to ask about the possibility of doing a summer internship before he went to University.

During his internship Nick has been involved in the following;

  • Product Development Tasks
  • Product formulation and optimisation
  • Compiling experimental data
  • Preparation of rheology profiles

  • Performance Related Testing of our Products
  • Accelerated weather testing
  • Adhesion to varying substrates
  • Tensile strain
  • Tensile stress
  • Water resistance

  • Material Safety Data Sheets
  • Updating all MSDS in accordance with 1907/2006/EC, Article 31
  • Ascertaining that all product labelling is correct

Lee Kennedy said; “Nick has worked really well, he has been focused, methodical and enthusiastic. All of his hard work has helped move some important development projects onto the next stage.”

Spraylat International are keen to offer opportunities to help local young people gain valuable experience in the work place, whether they are continuing in education or looking to head into employment.

When asked about his internship at Spraylat International Ltd Nick said,

“I liked seeing how the products improved because of the experiments and investigations that I had carried out. I learnt the importance of ensuring the customers provide as much information as possible to help deal with an enquiry from a technical point of view. As without detailed information, it can make a chemist’s job difficult. Overall, I’ve gained plenty of experience, my problem solving and practical skills have improved greatly and I’m much better at evaluating and conclusions from results.”

Nick is going on to the University of Birmingham to study Chemistry, and we wish Nick the best of luck with his studies and with his promising future as a chemist.
